Video 01 : Advantages and Disadvantages of Training and Development

Every side has its own advantages and disadvantages likewise training and development also has both advantages and disadvantages.

Major benefits include of having effective workers, when the workforce is well trained the employees will be more efficient in meeting the organizational targets which supports the organization to compete easily in the market. Investing in the growth of the employees makes them feel valued and appreciated. As a return employees remain loyal and do the best at work and they will also be the brand ambassadors of the organization spreading the good about the business.

Employee training and development supports businesses in keeping up with the rapid changes in the industry. The modern organizations need to constantly develop with the rapid changes in the industry so if employees are trained for the changes the flow of the organizations will not get disturbed. The capacity to draw top talent is one of the biggest benefits of staff training and development. Prominent Workplaces employ this as a method of hiring.The job candidates of today are driven and diligent in their search for organizations that will support their professional growth and career aspirations.

The chance to pick up new abilities and information is the reason staff training is crucial. However, since staff training reduces turnover, it is still a cost-effective investment for a company. Specially employee retention saves a huge amount, and experts believe that the key to this is ongoing training and development for staff members.  Also, employees who have been trained properly require less supervision. This gives the freedom for the employers to focus on larger initiatives and to seize opportunities for improvement.

While having such a great number of advantages we should not forget to discuss the disadvantages as well. The money and resources spent on training and development is immense. If employees who are trained leave the organization within a short period of time the process of again hiring and training a person will be impacting the organizational flow.  In order to be updated with the latest trends constant training and development is necessary which will cause stress among the employees which could affect the employee productivity. If the training and development programs are more of a theoretical approach than an application approach the whole programmed could be boring and certain times employees would not understand the concept only through theory. The average budget for large companies was $17.7 million in 2019, small companies had an average budget of $367,490 (Annahttps://www.easy-lms.com/index.php?r=content%2Fcontent%2Fabout-us%2Fwho-we-are, Anna 2023).

Humans are different from each other. Similarly, employees preferred learning style might differ from one another so in a common training programme it might not be able to accommodate the preferences of all. Most of these programmes tend to suit visual and auditory learners and the entire training travels in the pace of the trainer so if the employee is a slow learner while the pace of the trainer is fast the employee may not be able to grab the information.

The time spent on training by the employee may require the employee to spend time away from the job which might lead them not to contribute a significant number of work hours for the employee. There is a common saying “Practice makes Perfect” but if the employees practice the wrong process due to the result of poor training and development programme the negative impact of the organization is immense.

Above mentioned are a few advantages and disadvantages of training and development. The organization should identify the needs and arrange the most suitable training and development programmes if not it could lead to waste of resources.

  9. Training and development offer several advantages for both individuals and organizations. Firstly, they enhance the skills and knowledge of employees, making them more competent and efficient in their roles. This can lead to increased productivity and better performance overall. Additionally, training and development programs can boost employee morale and job satisfaction by showing that the organization is invested in their growth and success. Moreover, these programs can help in talent retention, as employees are more likely to stay with a company that supports their professional development. On the downside, training and development can be costly and time-consuming for organizations, especially if they require hiring external trainers or sending employees to workshops or conferences. Furthermore, not all training programs may be effective in achieving their intended outcomes, leading to wasted resources. Additionally, there is a risk that employees may leave the organization after receiving valuable training, leading to a loss of investment. Therefore, while training and development can bring numerous benefits, they also require careful planning and evaluation to ensure they are worth the investment.
