In the fast-moving world the importance of effective employee training has significantly grown. There are diverse training methods varying from traditional settings to the modern innovative methods. Here are few of the most practiced training and development methods,

1.      On the job training ; Hands on training or on the job training is mainly focused on the practical aspects required for the job. Employees get to know their job with the support of a supervisor or trainer. This enables active participation for the employees in the job tasks.

2.      eLearning ; Remote training widely referred as eLearning has evolved as one of the most recognized training and development methods especially in the current post-pandemic context. This facilitates employees access online courses and materials from anywhere at any time.

3.      Instructor-led learning ; This is one of the most traditional methods and relatively popular type. This approach is similar to other classroom settings in that the trainer sets everything up and guides the activity, typically with a lecture-style presentation that includes visual aids.

4.      Role playing ;This approach is where a leaner and the trainer act out their respective roles in a potential workplace scenario. Playing roles would involve real-world issues such as intra- and inter-role disputes, overloads and underloads of roles. Role confusion results from these obstacles.

5.      Coaching ; This method involves an experienced individual who mentors the employees on specific job roles. Incorporating a mentorship program into the organization’s training program, in addition to other approaches, fosters relationships that assist in the onboarding and support of new staff members.

6.      Simulation training; In this method employees practice skills in simulator. This will help them prepare for real life situations while also boosting their confidence. This method is mostly practiced in the medical and aviation industries.

7.      Collaborative training; This is a methodology in which employees share their knowledge and experience to one another at the same time receiving from others. Using their abilities, ideas, and information, this method helps improve the training process for staff members as a whole.

8.      Job shadowing; This allows employees to follow and observe the professionals working in different job functions to gain knowledge. This also gives the opportunity for employees with less work experience to learn and work along experience professionals.

9.      Outward Bound Training (OBT) Method ; This method involves where the employees collaborate as teams outside the work place especially in unfamiliar environments where they would stay together as a team in tents for a couple of days. Participants are given the chance to discover their boundaries and potential. Participants would need to learn how to act naturally, regardless of their seniority or official position.

10.  Job Rotation Method ; This method of training involves transitioning trainees across jobs to increase their exposure and provide them a basic understanding of the organization as a whole. This supports them to interact with a larger group of individuals within the organization which will facilitate future working relationships.

There are many methods of training and development which can practiced by an organization. The organization should identify what is the best method suitable depending on the nature of the business and the employees so the most suitable methods can be followed. More than one method can be used within an organization to boost the productivity.
